Love the sound of a finely-tuned engine? Picture yourself in an exciting career as a Motorcycle Mechanic! NAIT's popular program can help you gain the required experience to land your first job.
As a Motorcycle Mechanic, you will repair and maintain many different brands and models of street, off-road and dual sport bikes.
Thanks to strong industry support, most of our facilities and equipment are second to none. You’ll receive training in motorcycle charging, starting and ignition systems, four-stroke tuning and top end diagnosis, inspection and reconditioning procedures, transmissions, crankshaft repair and more. You’ll also be able to recognize and interpret parts, plus learn how to ship and receive parts and control inventory.
We take a hands-on approach to learning. With instructor approval, you can even bring in your own motorcycle for use in shop class! You’ll gain additional hands-on training in the work experience component of the program at a recognized dealership or repair shop.
The work is demanding but very rewarding. Expanding your horizons will ensure year-round employment.
The skills and experience you gain in this program will prepare and certify you for entry-level employment. Plus, as a successful graduate, you’ll have the opportunity to write the first-year Alberta Apprenticeship Board Motorcycle Mechanic Apprenticeship exam.
Program Length
Twenty-eight weeks plus a six-week work experience component. Program begins August 28, 2006 and ends on March 23, 2007.
Work experience takes place between April 9 and May 18, 2007.

You begin your journey by completing the first 27 weeks of the Motorcycle Technician prerequisite providing training on a full range of motorcycles representing the top manufacturers. After you’ve tackled the basics of theory, move into our individually equipped labs for a series of courses. Each focuses on a specific motorcycle system, emphasizing service, repair and maintenance procedures. Then, move on to the Harley-Davidson Technology section covering parts systems, vehicle maintenance, customer skills and management techniques. At MMI, we present information in a logical, step-by-step sequence. Through both hands-on training and classroom projects you’ll gain a solid understanding of motorcycle mechanics and technology, and a practical grasp of each motorcycle system.
MOTORCYCLE TECHNICIAN SPECIALIST PROGRAM
You begin your journey by completing the Motorcycle Technician prerequisite providing training on a full range of motorcycles representing the top manufacturers. After you’ve tackled the basics in theory, move into our individually equipped labs for a series of courses. Each focuses on a specific motorcycle system, emphasizing service, repair and maintenance procedures. Then, you choose 24 weeks or more of manufacturer-specific elective course training.

MANUFACTURER-SPECIFIC TRAINING
If you have chosen Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki or Yamaha electives, you complete the program by taking your choice of two electives based on your specific interests.
* Honda - HonTech®
The HonTech elective, officially endorsed by American Honda, is designed to provide you with the knowledge and experience necessary to become an entry-level American Honda Technician.
* Yamaha - YamaPro®
MMI offers the only Yamaha elective that is officially endorsed and equipped by Yamaha Motor Corp., USA. YamaPro is an intense 12-week course designed to provide you with the knowledge and experience necessary to become an entry-level Yamaha technician.
* Kawasaki - K-Tech Specialist
The K-TECH elective is officially endorsed and equipped by Kawasaki Motors Corp., USA. It's designed to provide you with the knowledge and experience necessary to become an entry-level Kawasaki technician. K-TECH is equipped by Kawasaki with current motorcycles, ATVs and watercraft. We supply all necessary special tools and machinery.
* Suzuki - FAST (Factory Authorized Suzuki Training)
The only Suzuki training course that is officially endorsed and equipped by the American Suzuki Motor Corporation, the FAST elective provides you with the knowledge and experience necessary to become an entry-level Suzuki technician.
