Motorcycle Programs & Costs :-- Gearing Up/Traffic Skills Course Combo ($680) Learn to Ride with the experts! A combination of classroom theory and lessons and drills on the range, the Canada Safety Council’s Gearing Up will get you started and build your riding skills. This three day course is the most widespread motorcycle skills course in the world (over 500,000 students have taken Gearing Up since 1970), and KDSC is the exclusive presenter of Gearing Up in BC (see the CSC’s website www.ridertraining.org for more info). Our Instructors will administer the ICBC Motorcycle Skills Assessment Test and a Traffic Qualifier on Day 4. After successful completion of these tests, our professional instructors will teach you to ride safely and defensively in an urban environment using the BC Safety Council’s Traffic Skills Course. A total of 37.5 hours, this is the most in depth motorcycle safety training course you will find. We supply the motorcycles. Prerequisite: Students must hold a valid Class 6/8 Motorcycle Learner’s License before commencing training. Extra Training ($70) Motorcycling is a physical sport that requires concentration, coordination, balance, and practice. As learning curves can vary, a student may require additional training outside of his/her course dates in order to gain the skills necessary to keep up with the group. Additionally, some student may choose to take Extra Training in order to increase their confidence and ease with the motorcycle during the course. 3 hour sessions. Road Test Escort & Training ($60) Students will receive 45 minutes of in-traffic instruction. The instructor will ensure students arrive at ICBC in time for their appointment, wait while they take their Road Test, and then escort them back to KDSC. Use of a KDSC bike and helmet rental included. A great way to warm up, settle your nerves, and get some last minute pointers & tips. Students may book their final ICBC Class 6 Road Test through the KDSC office. MST Prep Training ($100 for 3 hours, $125 for 4 hours) Controlling a bike and performing manoeuvers at slow speeds is a real challenge. So, if you're ready to take the ICBC Motorcycle Skills Test but want some help mastering the necessary skills, this is the training session for you! Use your own bike or one of ours; we can even deliver one of our bikes to ICBC on the day of your MST! Road Test Evaluation & Training ($115) For riders who have not taken our Learn to Ride course and who are ready to take their ICBC Road Test. Three hours of instruction, including theory, slow speed drills, and in-traffic training. An instructor will assess the rider’s skills and provide valuable feedback and tips. A great way to ensure you’re prepared for the Road Test! Students may book their final ICBC Class 6 Road Test through the KDSC office. Ask us about using one of our bikes for the Road Test. Advanced Rider Training ($225) Ride your motorcycle with more confidence after this 17 hour refresher course focusing on lower and high speed control. This course kicks off with an evening theory class that focuses on defensive riding strategies, lane positioning, gear, and more. Then two days of range work will hone your slow speed skills and sharpen your collision avoidance, emergency braking, and emergency swerving techniques. This BC Safety Council Course is taught by our most experienced instructors and will prove to be a challenge to even those riders who have been riding for decades. Prerequisite: Must hold valid Class 6 License and supply own motorcycle. Instructor Training Course (Contact KDSC for prices) KDSC will hold Instructor Training Courses as our need for more professional instructors arises. This intensive program is based on a combination of observation, theory, and practical sessions. In order to be considered, candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of licensed riding experience, be able to pass a Criminal Record Check and a Driver’s History Check, and have a passion for teaching others about the sport of safe motorcycling. An interview process will determine any candidates to be accepted into the ITC. Instructing positions are part-time, seasonal. Interested individuals should contact Tania Meyer, General Manager for more information. Mechanics 101 & 201, Winterization ($25 each or all 3 for only $65) Mechanics 101 will include a detailed segment on how to perform a proper pre-trip inspection, and students will also learn how to change their oil, how to adjust the chain, clutch, and the brakes, as well as many other do-it-yourself fixes that can safely be done by riders themselves. Jobs better left to a professional mechanic will also be outlined. Mechanics 102 will continue where 101 leaves off, but attendance at the first Mechanics course is not a prerequisite to participation in the second course. The Winterization course will teach students how to winterize their bikes for fall and winter storage so that they’re in top form and ready to ride on the first day of spring. The experts from Kelowna Yamaha will show students what to do with their motorcycle’s battery, oil, gas, tires, and air filters. No previous mechanical knowledge required. Students are encouraged to bring their own bikes to class if they have questions about their particular makes and models. Coffee and donuts included! Sponsored and hosted by Kelowna Yamaha.
